Awake Goy Sudirman Said, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, will depart for Iran on Sunday to discuss ways for boosting bilateral cooperation and sign an initial deal with Tehran for the purchase of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Earlier in March, an official at Indonesia’s state energy firm Pertamina was quoted to have said his country hoped to import up to 132,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran in the second half of the year.
“We are serious about Iran’s LPG and exploring banks that can be appointed for the transaction because US dollars still can’t be used,” Hasto Wibowo, a senior Pertamina official, told reporters.
Senior officials from Iran Oil Ministry and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia signed an MoU in February for the development of bilateral cooperation in the post-sanction era.
Iran Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayebnia during his visit to Jakarta last week expressed the country’s readiness to provide Indonesia with a daily supply of 200 thousand barrels of crude oil as required by the Southeast Asian nation.
