Iran 10th Parliament to convene May 28

TEHRAN, Apr. 27 (MNA) – The 10th Parliament of Iran (Majlis) is scheduled to start on May 28, 2016, Interior Ministry Spokesman Hossein Ali Amiri said Wednesday.Amiri added run-off elections will be held in 21 provinces across the country to 17 million eligible voters on Friday morning, April 29.

“Elections in all constituencies will be held in a completely competitive atmosphere,” said Amiri.

The Iranian official went on to add that the election campaigns for the second round of 10th Parliament elections, which opened April 21, will continue until tomorrow at 8 PM local time.

In this round of Parliament elections, 136 candidates will compete for 68 remaining seats in 55 constituencies.

“While in the first round, at least 25 per cent of the votes in a constituency was needed to decide who would sit in the parliament, the criterion for being elected in the run-off is relative majority with any number of votes,” he explained.

“Under the current situation in the Middle East where parts of Iraq and Syria have fallen to the terrorist groups, the enthusiastic participation of Iranian people in the 10th Parliament elections will be of significant value,” he said.
