Iran names calligraphy biennial winners

Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini alongside a number of cultural officials and artists attended the ceremony held on June 9.

About 65 works, from among 940 submitted ones to the festival, were selected in different categories of Nastaliq, Cursive Nastaliq, Naskh, Thuluth and several other styles.

Hamid Jafari received the first prize in Nastaliq while the second and third awards went to Mostafa Abedini and Ahmad Sabahi-Kia.

Mohammad Mousavi-Nasab was named as the first winner in Naskh and Mostafa Rezaei received the second prize of this category.

The festival also paid tribute to the pioneer Persian master of Cursive Nastaliq Abdolmajid Taleqani (1737-1717). Several other calligraphers were honored at the event as well.

The 2nd International Biennial of Calligraphy was held in two competition and non-competition categories.

Iran’s Visual Arts Center in collaboration with Qazvin’s Culture and Islamic Guidance office, Contemporary Visual Arts Development Institute, Iranian Calligraphers Association (ICA) and ECO Cultural Institute (ECI) organized the festival.
