Iran to exhibit latest Shirchi artworks

Shirchi has already finished two works of Hilyah inspired by the Arabic word, Bismillah, which is used as the collective name of the phrase bismillahi-r Rahmani-r rahim meaning ‘In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.’

Hilyah is a ‘word picture’ in which sentences and phrases are written in the form of birds or animals.

“I have also finished another work featuring the word Bismillah in a background of Persian arabesque patterns known as Shamseh,” Shirchi told Fars News Agency.

“I have inscribed Qur’anic verses inside the Shamseh patterns using brown and golden orange colors which remind you of old Persian architecture.”

Iran’s 2012 International Bismillah Festival will kick off on August 3, in Tehran’s Milad Tower and Nivaran Cultural and Historical Complex.

The international Qur’anic arts expo will be held concurrently in Tehran, the Persian Gulf island of Abu Musa and the countries of Malaysia, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates.

Shirchi is also working on a 5-meter long calligraphy work focusing on a number of Quranic verses on the subject of the Earth and the skies.

The work features Nast’aliq and Cursive Nast’aliq calligraphy styles along with symbols of Iranian desert architecture.

Shirchi is currently an instructor at Iran’s Association of Calligraphers and has published over 10 collections of his works.

He has held numerous exhibitions in different countries including France, Belgium and Luxembourg. His 2008 calligraphy exhibition featuring Iranian musician Fazel Jamshidi’s live musical performance attracted thousands of art enthusiasts in the US.
