‘Iranian officials must serve nation’

Speaking at the opening session of the ninth Majlis on Sunday, President Ahmadinejad hailed the Iranian nation as “civilization-building, culture-making, pious, brave, intelligent, patient, freedom-loving and justice-seeking.”

He went on to emphasize that lawmakers and the president “must constantly remember that we are not people’s boss and have been elected to serve them.”

The president said the forces of evil are mounting pressure on the Iranian nation and to avert and counter such pressures all branches of the government must cooperate and collaborate with one another.

Iran’s president further told the new lawmakers that “another reason you and I got elected to office was to pursue the divine and humane principles of the Islamic Revolution as well as to defend the freedom and the rights of the nation, abolish poverty and discrimination, and establish justice and a model community.”

A message by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was read at the opening session of the ninth Majlis which described the event as another “powerful message” from the Islamic Republic to the world.
