Israel undecided on Iran attack: Panetta

“My view is that they [Israelis] have not made any decisions with regards to Iran and they continue to support the international effort to bring pressure against Iran,” Panetta claimed on Sunday, the Washington Post reported.

The US defense secretary arrived in Israel on Tuesday as part of a five-day swing that includes stops in Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan.

“The sanctions [against Iran] in these next few weeks are going to be ratcheting up to a whole new level of impact,” Panetta further said.

Romney had earlier said in a foreign policy speech in al-Quds (Jerusalem) on Sunday that, “We should employ any and all measures” to stop Iran’s nuclear energy program, adding that, “In the final analysis, of course, no option should be excluded.”

The US presidential hopeful arrived in Israel on Saturday night on the second leg of a three-country tour that began in London.

Washington and Tel Aviv have repeatedly threatened Tehran with a military strike to force it to halt its nuclear energy program, claimed by the duo to have been directed towards the acquisition of military nuclear capability.

But Iran has dismissed the allegation and the threats, pledging a crushing response to any attack on its soil.
