The Seekers have announced they are ready to hit the road again as part of their Golden Jubilee Tour of Australia.

The tour was suspended in May after lead singer Judith Durham suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and spent six weeks in hospital.

Although her ability to read and write were affected, she did not lose her famous singing voice.

After three months of rehabilitation, the band began rehearsing again.

Their first show back is in Perth in early November.

Durham says her desire to get back on tour helped her recovery.

“There is no doubt about it. Without question. The four of us had a dress rehearsal the other day, so we thought okay, we’ll pretend to do a show and see how it goes,” she said.

“It was a big, big test because memory could have failed us. Any one of us.

“And it was absolutely brilliant, very reassuring.”

The singer says it has been frustrating not being able to get back on the stage earlier.

“Especially knowing the incredible support from everyone. It’s just been absolutely unbelievable from the word go that people have been so, so supportive and sending such marvellous, marvellous messages,” Durham said.

“All the fans, bless them, instead of asking for their money back, they’ve all been in good faith that the tour was going to happen at some point.

“It’s now wonderful today to be able to say to everyone the tour is now going to go ahead as planned three months ago,” she said.

Fellow Seeker Bruce Woodley says although Durham’s illness took the wind out of everyone’s sails, there has been a plus side.

“Her voice is actually better than it was on the tour. So maybe the rest did a lot of good,” he said.

Band member Athol Guy says he hopes the group will have a more relaxing tour this time round.

“It’s going to be called The Seekers stress-free anniversary holiday tour around Australia,” he said.

“We’ve all agreed that’s the way it’s going to be,” Guy said.
