Libyan rebels in ‘final push’ for capital

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has pledged once again to remain in Tripoli until the end, as opposition fighters battled their way towards the capital to reinforce rebels who rose up in the city overnight.

Fighting continued into Sunday morning in a few central and eastern neighbourhoods, and rebel flags were raised over some buildings, witnesses said. Much of the population took cover inside their homes.

The clashes came a day after forces loyal to Gaddafi used heavy machine guns and mortars to confront lightly armed opposition forces and protesters who took to the streets.

As opposition fighters continued what they called their “final push” for the capital, Gaddafi addressed the nation in an audio message aired on state television on Sunday.

  1. Pretty sad state of affairs, Gaddafi, expressed support for Mubark.. All started on face book, Arab Spring.. Same day calls wen’t out on Face Book and Twitter..We already had people on the ground…Gaddafi, had no idea how fast Obama, was able to move.. All orchastrated protest to cause fall at same time…..

    • Think London, Riots were destraction.. Norway, retaliation for pulling out of the Libyia campaign..

    • Like Iraq, Libya, will be in termoil for years, there we other ways to get him…Seems like heavy handed knee jurk action, now on to Syria, The real objective is Iran.. This is going to be a big Problem.. Never ending war..

  3. wouldn’t this be something if we somehow found out this was all done in a hollywood studio?

    • prolly real…though some episodes, especially in the beginning to stir up public passions, might have been staged

  4. ‘final’ may be misspelled ‘fatal’

    • The Colonel shall shank them in the trenches. he shall blast them in the britches. he shall haunt their serpent dreams with mongoose ferocity.
