A Massachusetts man is facing five years in prison after secretly recording an argument between himself and a police officer who had pulled him over for a traffic infraction.
Robert E. Mansfield was charged with felony wiretapping after he walked into the police station asking police to rescind the citation for having an obstructed license plate because of a tinted cover.
At some point during his conversation with officers at the police station, he informed them he had recorded the argument between himself and the officer.
That was when they searched his car, found two cell phones and arrested him, according to the Patriot-Ledger.

Why not be honest and say right at the beginning of the conversation / action that you are recording the event, and can claim that way BOTH parties are protected.
Like they say to the citizens ” If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear”, swings both ways but if you don’t admit to recording them it looks like you are trying to incite a negative reaction from the ‘authorities’.
So be honest and tell them you taping them, if they dont like it then tough you have to protect your rights and besides they are probably taping you without your consent already.
And if they don’t agree then simply state “I am scared of your actions please leave me alone” and go to walk away, and see what happens.
“It is against the law to audio-record anyone without their knowledge – anyone,” Police Chief Christine May-Stafford said.
Don’t law enforcement agencies do this all the time? What about the NSA and their known tapping?
The above quote needs to be changed to “It is against the law to audio-record any authoritative figure but it’s OK for anyone else”
The message being set by Massachusetts Police, “…try to hold us accountable and we will arrest you and charge you with felonies…”
Jeez, are we living in comunist Russia?!?!?
Where is the outrage? There should be MASSIVE peaceful protests by the People at the capital in Boston!
The Massachusetts government should remember the Boston Mmassacre and the Boston Tea Party. They have strayed too far from the ideals on which this country was founded.
Sad.
Anyone who works for taxpayers dollars should have to be monitored and recorded 24/7, Specially the cops and govt.
