Liberal National Party (LNP) Queensland president Bruce McIver has denied being summoned to give evidence in the case against sidelined Speaker Peter Slipper.
Mr Slipper is at the centre of a sexual harassment case brought on by former staffer James Ashby.
“I have not received any subpoena to give evidence in the case against Peter Slipper MP,” he said in a statement responding to media reports claiming Mr Slipper’s lawyers had subpoenaed him to give evidence.
“If I do receive a subpoena, I will co-operate.
“It is disappointing that this has been pursued through the media rather than with me personally.”
The Australian newspaper reported Mr Slipper’s lawyers had demanded Mr McIver disclose correspondence with Howard-era minister Mal Brough, who had asked him to find one of Mr Slipper’s staffers a job in the newly elected Queensland LNP government.
Mr Brough, who is seeking preselection in Mr Slipper’s Sunshine Coast-based seat of Fisher, has admitted advising Mr Ashby to report sexual harassment allegations against Mr Slipper to police.
