Milne calls on Labor to settle leadership

GREENS Leader Christine Milne has called on Labor to get its leadership settled as soon as possible so the focus can return to policy.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s leadership is once again under threat as MPs return to Canberra for the final two weeks of sitting before the September 14 election.

New Galaxy polling published by News Limited shows Kevin Rudd’s resurrection would deliver a six-point lift in Labor’s primary vote, saving 18 seats and putting it within striking distance of victory.

Senator Milne says she’s extremely disappointed the Gillard versus Rudd fight is once again filling the media.

“I wish they’d get on with it because I think the country would like to actually debate some issues leading into the election,” Senator Milne told Sky News on Sunday.

She says the mood for change is there.

“The vibe is certainly there and even people in the Labor Party are saying it’s being seriously discussed,” she said.

“So who knows what will happen?”

She believes Mr Rudd would probably need to call an immediate election if he was returned to the leadership.
