MP urges recognition of Iran N-rights

Anoushiravan Mohesni, who is also the head of Iran-Indonesia parliamentary friendship group, told Fars News Agency on Tuesday that the Baghdad negotiations would hopefully lead to the Western side “taking Iran off the sanctions list and recognizing its righteousness in the use of peaceful nuclear energy”.

The Iranian lawmaker also stressed that the Islamic Republic has followed a “proper” course ever since the beginning of talks on its nuclear energy program, despite the fact that the West has tried to find a “new excuse” each time.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (P5+1) have agreed to hold the next round of talks on Tehran’s nuclear energy program in Baghdad on Wednesday, 2012.

Tehran and the P5+1 had previously held two rounds of talks, one in Geneva, Switzerland, in December 2010, and another in Istanbul, Turkey, in January 2011.

The US, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

In a bid to escalate pressure on the country, the US and the EU have used these accusations to impose tough financial and oil sanctions against Iran.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed the Western allegations over its nuclear activities, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
