Nice goes black for Earth Hour 2013 (Video)

Today, Saturday, March 23, 2013, the city of Nice will be turning lights out around the city from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (local time) to show its support of ‘Earth Hour‘.

Earth Hour is a global-wide event created by the ‘World Wide Find for Nature (WWF) back in 2007, as a peaceful way for individuals, businesses, governments and anyone else to protest worsening climate change, and show their support of working together to create a greener future for everyone.

Hat’s off to Nice Mayor, Christian Estrosi, who has pledged his city’s support of Earth hour and has promised to turn off or dim the lights in the following locations:

  • the colline du Chateau
  • the monument aux morts
  • the jardinets axiaux
  • the facade of the Mediterranean Center, and
  • the street lamps of the Promenade des Anglais

According to their Website, the WWF reports that “The world is using the equivalent of one and a half planets to support life on Earth. WWF’s Earth Hour was born out of a hope that this could change.

At 8.30pm on 23 March hundreds of millions of people will turn off their lights for one hour, on the same night, all across the world in a huge, symbolic show of support…”

Anyone who would like to join Earth Hour can get more information or sign up for free on their Website: http://wwf.panda.org/
