We have seen the future, and it went bankrupt.

If the praises of high-ranking Obama-administration officials were a viable business plan, the solar-panel maker Solyndra would be an industrial juggernaut. Vice President Biden insisted that the jobs created by the California-based firm would “allow America to compete and to lead like we did in the 20th century.”

In a visit to Solyndra in May 2010, President Obama called it “a testament to American ingenuity and dynamism.” He all but redefined the traditional statement of Americanness to encompass motherhood, apple pie, and the conversion of sunlight into electricity through cylindrical thin-film solar cells, the specialty of Solyndra.

Obama and Biden were literally invested in Solyndra’s success. The company got a half-billion-dollar federal loan guarantee, the first in a highly vaunted Department of Energy green-jobs program, as part of the stimulus. This was supposed to be the new economic model: government and its favored industries cooperating to lead the country into a green, politically approved recovery.

The showcase firm is now filing for Chapter 11 in an embarrassing blow to the premises of Obamanomics. At least the Obama administration can’t be accused of practicing industrial policy the old-fashioned way and picking winners. It is evidently quite ready to pick losers, too…

Nothing that Americans can nor will ever be able to do here, about anything nor with anything will ever be able to compete with what corporate-red Chinese slaves can do for 1/50th the labor, 1/100 the tax and 0 environmental protection cost.

I remember when Obama made his presidential address to the nation after the BP spill in the Gulf. He stated then that we need to move more towards green. It is critical that we accept a change. Everyone says his campaign was run on the hope of change but nothing has changed. Its not because he doesnt influence a change its because no one really wants a change. Also everyone talks about corporate kick backs and shit, well he gets his checks from the same places we do, his are just bigger.
Bad part is that Barry KNEW this was going to happen as his lil “Praise” speech was flowing out of his gawdamn lying mouth…IMPEACH THIS ASSHOLE NOW!!!

This is hit and run jounalism at it’s worst!
Rich Lowry has the nerve to compare the filth that went on at Enron and the total corruption that Ken Lay and Richard Skilling portrayed in the scandalous deregulation of the electric grid, and the snakes that lied in wait to scam the system into quadruple electric bills, and Bush and Cheney not calling in FERC to stop the carnage!
How is that any comparison with Obama getting a $500 million venture capital loan to help it’s operations?
Solyndra unfortunatley is caught in a perfact storm of an economic slowdown, stingy bank lending, and super cheap solar imports from China.
Many start-ups are hurting, and unfortunately, Solyndra was not big enough or capitalized enough to keep going.
Chapter 11 is only a reorganization of the company’s debt, not a full surrender.
Any Company that has it’s quality products compete with cheaper Chinese products is at a big disadvantage, but that is the way the current game is unfortuantely played because Made in America does’t mean sqaut to most Americans anymore. Only the false impression of the China Price that is actually no savings at all when you consider the lower wages, unemployment, and increased national debt that result from it!
- Solar imports from China, made by the company that GE and China formed (since China REQUIRES 51% owndership in all Chinese companies) to make solar cells after GE used it’s stimulous money to move those manufacturing facilities to China, from the US.
  
  Solyndra was not caught up in a storm! Anyone with a brain could see the economic slowdown a comin,’ and the banks are OPENLY getting paid by the fed’s to NOT LOAN MONEY.
  
  It was $500 MILLION given to a small group of people who paid themselves way too much money, to blow it on sh-t that depends on heavy taxation of competitive industries to survive. Unless we get a price on carbon, carbon taxes, AND cap and trade, solar will NOT be a feasible alternative for large scale energy production any time soon.
  
  In fact, the $500 MILLION (if you had to spend $500 MILLION tax dollars) would have been better off going to science and engineering research grants to major universities to publically research solar technology advancement. But that doesn’t get you campaign contributions. Instead, it went to a loser solar company that makes sh-tty panels, that China can make 10 cents on the dollar, because tax payer stimulous money, given to GE, paid for manufacturing facilities to be moved to China to make them so damn cheap.
  
  And don’t tell me this was not planned EXACTLY this way!
I’m trying to go solar little by little.
It’s nice to have some kind of backup when the lights go out.
Or take a few appliances off the grid.
The problem is it’s too expensive.
To break even on that investment would take years vs. electric company rates.
(yeah, I know “necessarily skyrocket”, why do you think I’m trying to go solar?)
And the batteries or panels would have worn out by then.
Not to mention what an EMP would do to the system.
I suppose if this “stunt” had worked, BHO would have looked like the Green Lantern instead of the Green Manalishi.
- But the problem is that it had no possible way of working. BHO is either to ignorant to know that giving a company a half a billion federal dollars so it can start up is but one of hundreds of reasons why you should know it will fail, or BHO is in on the fact that these guys just stole a whole bunch of money from the American tax payer, and after years of high pay and great benefits, are going chapter 11, so they can steal more money as they default on that debt.
  
  Helping campaign contributors steal tax dollars or one really f-ckin’ dumb president and VP. You decide.
Another Obama failure! Obama isn’t an entrepreneur, he is from the land of academia and this failure just goes on to prove those facts.
Only one word comes to mind….”KICKBACK”
