‘Obama hindered by economic woes’

“The economy is in a much worse shape and every time some bad news comes out. The president says that there is very little that he, as president, can do to save the economy, which I do not think is true,” said economist Jeff Steinberg in a Saturday interview.

“There is no economy. The job numbers are fake, because you have more and more people leaving the [jobless] data base because they have been unemployed for so long that they have stopped looking for jobs,” he pointed out.

As the November presidential election nears, Obama has been trying to reassure voters that the government is creating the right environment for job growth.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll released this week showed that Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney polled four percentage points ahead of Obama on handling the economy.

Since 2008, the US has been grappling with its worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s, with home foreclosures, job losses, and high gas prices–exposing the president’s vulnerabilities for reelection.
