Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 2-8. Take the opportunity this week to learn more about mental illnesses. Mental illnesses are medical illnesses. One in four adults experiences a mental health problem in any given year. One in 17 lives with serious, chronic illness. Help us reduce the stigma of mental illness.

“Over the last 20 years there have been great strides made in increasing our nation’s recognition that mental illness is widespread, affecting millions of people across our country, but there is much work left to be done,” said Dr. Mark Urich, VA Butler’s Lead Psychologist and Local Recovery Coordinator.

On Wednesday, October 5 from 1-3 pm in the Auditorium, VA Butler Healthcare will celebrate its second annual Recovery Recognition Day, a celebration of the remarkable efforts of Veterans who have overcome mental health problems to lead healthier, happier, and productive lives. Veterans, family members, community members, and VA staff are invited to join us to hear stories of hope and inspiration.

“We are trying to make people aware that mental illness is a very real and very important problem in our society,” said Dr. Urich. “We want people to know that recovery from mental illness is possible, that treatment does work, and that the time has come to end the stigma associated with mental illness and to end the stigma associated with seeking help.”
