Protests held outside US’s UK mission

The scene began with a few hundred people assembling at Grosvenor Square on Sunday 17 September before the scheduled 2:30pm start time, with which many of them support Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, the organizers of the protest.

The crowd became much larger in a short amount of time as London police officers set crowd barriers. Many men stood at the front of the crowd and were joined with a number of women and children at the back, who were all listening to speakers condemning the film, US foreign policy and oppressing Muslims and Islam.

The content of the anti-Islam film, which mocks Islam and the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) sparked mass protests and marches outside US embassies in the Middle East, North Africa and even Europe.

Among the 1,000 protestors in London, placards were being held aimed at the US government, stating, “America – get out of Muslim lands”.

Nazreen Nawaz, a spokeswoman for Hizb ut-Tahrir, explained why protests were being held against the US government as well as the film. “We’re very clear today in saying that no violence against any ambassador or civilians is accepted in Islam. We’re not calling for violent actions here. What we’re saying is that Muslims must protest, and you must understand the anger of the streets in the Muslim world,” she said.
