RSPCA do NOT protect animals, they KILL them

Trapped dog under a shed? No problem leave him out in the cold for 48 hrs and he’ll crawl out himself.

I am soooo fuming right now over an incident this morning, an emergency that involved my 6 year old Jack Russell, who somehow managed to escape into a neighbours back yard and then into another. So he was two houses down.

While my fences are all up including 3 brand new panels just a month new, there appears to be a small gap to the right where he went through. While preparing his breakfast, some which I had to cook (fresh Mackerel), he and others were running around in our back-yard (it’s quite massive). The other two soon came in but he remained out. After a few minutes of yelling, my new neighbour came to my door and I was out like a light and into her back yard.

RSPCA wanted me left 48 hours outside under a garden shed in a hole I was stuck in. The Duchess is spitting nails and cussing worse than a drunken sailor. I’m getting kisses every other minute from her, so what do I care about all the fuss.

The little rascal had got himself wedged into a hole under a garden shed at the bottom of their garden and I found her husband on his belly on the cold ground trying to coax the wee fella out, while having to hear his wails. My neighbour even used a shovel to dig a hole but Deefer, was lodged half-way across below the shed, in a hole they believe foxes normally occupy.

After almost an hour of tempting him with roast chicken and his favorite rope ball, (hoping) he’d grab on to it so we could pull him out, I decided to call the Fire Service. My neighbours suggested the RSPCA, but I told them, we would be waiting for hours. The fire service told they would show up if instructed by the RSPCA, so I called and dealt with a less than enthusiastic call centre zombie, who told me my Deef hadn’t been down there long enough to warrant a call out by an RSPCA officer.  She tried to assure me he would come out eventually and just make sure I brought food to him at his regular feeding hours. I was gob smacked but the pièce de résistance? To wait 48 hours and call back if he wasn’t out. I think I asked her how she expected to leave my dog outside in zero degree weather  (it will be tonight).  Regardless of the weather I would never leave any animal trapped.

I had my cell phone on speaker phone so the others were listening and were just as incredulous as I was. I hung up and called London Fire Service and conveyed my conversation with the RSPCA. The fire crew were at the door in 5 minutres, and were very gracious as usual and within 15 minutes we had Deefer out.

Are these people for real? They really expected me to leave him trapped in a hole he could not move around in. I wouldn’t do that to a human being, so how do they expect me to allow a furry a member of my family?

It was just purely by accident my neighbours heard his anguished yelps, as they were getting ready to leave for a weekend in the Shires with their family, for their Christmas get together, as they were all ill over Christmas. So not only did I inconvenience them I set them back 2 hours, I felt guilty about calling the Fire Service, to spring my  little rascal out of a fox hole.

The RSPCA? They will be hearing from me on Monday.

By the way, it’s not my first run in with this mob and they are the one animal charity I have always been weary of.

  1. I complained to the RSPCA after I called them when I found a tiny kitten outside in the street in the rain, and they told me that if I thought he was around 12 weeks old (which was the vet’s estimate) then it was probably ok to leave him as that was ‘around the age they start climbing trees’ and ‘the time that some people let their cats out’. Complete nonsense- it’s the age they should only just have left their mothers. I had to keep asking the woman on the phone to actually take the details in case somebody was looking for him.

  2. I’ve heard of similar stories concerning the RSPCA. In one case they left a dog hopelessly trapped for over a week, the owner couldn’t get to it to feed it. Eventually, from desperation, the owner put her own life at risk to retrieve her dog, which thankfully recovered from the ordeal. The RSPCA spends thousands on specialist equipment….then call out the Fire Brigade or police, while they hog the headlines and tell people how wonderful they are.
I have my own opinion about that !!

  3. The thing is I didn’t want them to come out even though my neighbours suggested we call them, having dealt wih them in the past I knew for expidiency it had to be the fire crew.

All I wanted the RSPCA to do was give London Fire Service the go ahead to come and rescue him and I was disgusted they refused to do that.

I’m a tough old bird and would have found a way to get him out, if I had to dismantle the shed (I would have offered them temporary use of mine). But imagine if it was someone really vulnerable like a little old lady.

I know how tight resources and personnel are with animal charities as I have voluntered, adopted from them and donated. I totally get it and would only turn to them as a last resort. It was the utter cold and unhelpful way I was spoken to, which I chalk up to paid employees….most volunteers I have had the pleasure to work alongside, would have never responded in that fashion.

  4. Yet another incident in a long line of them! Latest one being adding Cheale Meats (the ones who tortured the pigs) to Freedom Foods. I also have my own opinion of them.

  5. Oh this is one of the many idiotic things that happen, when a call centre gets in the way. Do i think the person who took the call even knows what a dog looks like? I don’t. do i think there is anyone who can give me a qualified answer to my worries? I don’t. why do they not see, that keeping these people will not solve anyone’s issues? fragmenting a service that should be dedicated to working in the most efficient way so that they can save lives, should be outlawed.

  6. The RSPCA are one of the richest charities in the country and yet they no longer take in animals from members of the public. They only take “RSPCA generated animals” ie animals an inspector has bullied the owners into signing over. These are usually easily sellable animals. After all, what is a minimum donation other than a selling price?

Take a look at http://rspca-animadversion.org.uk/ for some background on the charity. Note that there is a petition on the government’s e-petition site asking for a charities ombudsman with the power to bring rogue charities like the RSPCA under control. See
    http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/645

This petition calls on the government to create a Charities Ombudsman with the power to deal with complaints about charities and the authority to order a charity to provide adequate redress if a complaint is upheld.. The Charity Commission is unable to get involved in a wide range of complaints because they are not within its remit. If a complainant is dissatisfied with the outcome of a Charity’s own internal complaints procedure their only remaining option is the legal system. With legal aid being cut drastically this is beyond the reach of the majority of people. Many charities are now running services or even acting as law enforcement agencies, so it is important that they are seen to be properly regulated and to have an effective and objective independent external complaints procedure. We want Parliament to debate this issue.

    • I always thought it was strange, that the RSPCA as a charity was the status quo to go by, and in many cases, the only option to get a case looked at. So either they are made a public service, including all public service regulations and responsibilities, or they are a charity, and take a step back.

I personally prefer the service to be in public hand, but I am not sure, the way, the RSPCA is run at the moment, is fit for that purpose.
