Shen Yun Is ‘Very Educational and Enlightening,’ Says Location Manager for Film and Television

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Michael German, key assistant location manager for film and television with ABC/Disney, said he felt “very uplifted” after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Terrace Theater on March 18.

“I loved it, it was as good as I’d hoped it would be,” Mr. German said. “It was a really, really professional and well done.”

“It just left me with a very positive overall feeling … very uplifted.”

Shen Yun’s live orchestra that blends Eastern and Western instruments, Mr. German said, was “timed perfectly” to the classical Chinese dance choreography and the company’s patented 3D digital backdrop.

“The special effects and the techniques that were used were very professional and some things I’ve never seen before,” he added.

Shen Yun’s digital backdrop allows the performers to seamlessly travel back and forth between the stage and the background projection, giving the audience interactive views into the ancient wonders of China and even scenes in the heavens.

“Visually spectacular … the streamline between the dancers and the digital was flawless,” he said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company. Along with folk dances and solo performances, the production depicts story-based pieces that tell tales from ancient times to the modern-day.

China was once known as “The Land of the Divine” and Shen Yun presents this culture by drawing upon the Middle Kingdom’s Buddhist and Daoist philosophies. As such, the performance often includes spiritually uplifting messages, according to the company’s website.

Mr. German appreciated the message and principles demonstrated by Shen Yun’s dance pieces.

“It’s very educational and enlightening to people,” he said.

“The message of hope, message of positivity, message of spirituality … and [to] be kind and be good towards others … it definitely sends that message and I think it’s very clear,” he added.

“I hope that Shen Yun is able to continue for years … and I hope everyone has an opportunity to see it at least once,” he said. “Its message and … the talent that exists in this show is something to be seen.”
