Skateboarder towed by mother in hopsital

A skateboarder has been injured while his mother towed him behind her car in Sydney’s south.

The woman drove from her home in Ebony Row, Menai, with her 14-year-old son holding onto the back of the car while he stood on his skateboard, police said.

Police said the the car made a right turn onto The Woods Circuit and the teenager became unsteady and fell onto the road.

He was taken to St George Hospital with bruising, lacerations and soft tissue damage.

Sutherland local area command duty officer Inspector Rod Rae said the mother knew her son was holding on to the back of the car.

“It wasn’t as if she didn’t know,” Inspector Rae said.

“Apparently the kid is going to be OK.

“It sounded terrible at first … it looked like it was going to be quite serious.

“You can imagine what the mum was thinking then.”

Senior Sergeant Peter Jenkins, from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, said the son was towed for about 130 metres.

“We certainly don’t recommend it to anyone,” Senior Sergeant Jenkins said.

“It’s usually something we associate with younger people, not a mum and son.”
