Opportunity Finance Network is backed by very banks who screwed struggling Americans by refusing to loan bailout funds

Starbucks has gone on a charm offensive with the launch of its ‘Let’s Create Jobs For USA’ initiative, which will encourage people to donate $5 dollars every time they buy a coffee towards a fund aimed at helping poor people get loans.

However, the group running the scheme is funded by the very same big banks who received trillions in bailout funds that are still deliberately withholding loans from struggling Americans in order to make money off the interest on deposits held with the Federal Reserve.

“Starting Nov. 1, Starbucks will begin collecting donations of $5 or more from customers to stimulate U.S. job growth through its “Jobs for USA” program,” reports the Associated Press.

Customers who make the donation will receive a wristband with the word “Indivisible” printed on it.

As expected, the establishment media has spun the move as a rare example of a transnational corporation giving something back to the people, when in reality the move will largely benefit the Wall Street institutions and giant banks who fund the Opportunity Finance Network.

What the corporate press is loathe to report is the fact that the OFN, while posing as a philanthropic financial refuge for poor Americans, is little more than a Wall Street front organization. It is bankrolled by the likes of Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Stanley.

“The ‘Create Jobs for USA’ fund has been made in partnership with Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), a group of private financial institutions that provide affordable loans to low-income people and communities,” reports the Daily Mail.

However, the OFN’s financial backers include the very banks and financial institutions, JP Morgan prime amongst them, who deliberately withheld loans paid for with bailout money that were supposed to kick start the US economy.

After former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson sold Congress on the initial $700 billion dollar bailout by promising it would be used to buy up banks’ toxic assets and unfreeze credit markets, as soon as the legislation was passed the money was used instead to prop up failing banks as part of a re-capitalization process, and millions of Americans were denied desperately needed loans. Most of the bailout money, which went on to total trillions, went to foreign banks.

The Federal Reserve made at least $16 trillion in secret loans to big banks including Morgan Stanley and Bank of America, the very groups behind the Opportunity Finance Network, and not a penny of that money went to ordinary Americans.

“The dirty little secret of the banking industry is that it has no intention of using the money to make new loans,” the New York Times acknowledged back in 2008.

Indeed, banks that received bailout money did not increase their lending to struggling Americans, and refused to lend to smaller local banks, causing the banks to collapse and allowing the likes of Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup to pick off their competition.

The Federal Reserve is still paying big banks not to lend the bailout money, including those behind the OFN group, by giving them interest on “excess reserves” held with the Fed.

For Starbucks to claim that it is collecting donation money from the American people to help fund affordable loans for poor people and then handing that money to a group completely bankrolled by the very entities who refused to provide affordable loans at the height of the financial crisis, and took trillions of dollars in secret from the Fed, is the height of hypocrisy.

Starbucks and Wall Street have often found themselves on the same page before, particularly when it comes to supporting the Obama administration.

Back in 2008, the Wall Street-owned Obama administration attempted to hand Starbucks a piece of the bailout pie when Nancy Pelosi introduced a bill that would have halted the closure of 600 Starbucks coffee shops by using millions of taxpayer dollars to pay for ‘Venti Vouchers’ that would have been usable by Starbucks customers in hard hit areas.

Starbucks also scratched Obama’s back by offering a free cup of coffee for anyone who voted on the day of the last Presidential election , knowing of course that the vast majority of Starbucks customers who live in major metropolitan areas are Democrats and would vote for Obama.

The company also offered free coffee to those who offered to pledge their allegiance to Obama’s creepy ‘national civilian security force’ proposal back in January 2009.

Yay, we can work for Starbucks and drink lattes. I’m so excited. Hooray.

  2. Donate that $5 to the Eric Holder defense Fund, save a lawyers job

  3. are you out of your fu#$’n mind!

  4. Do they only accept Dollar donations or are silver coins okay? hahaha

  5. This is the story of identical twins, one has two jobs and the other has none. One twin works at two fast food restaurants, and the other lives in a homeless shelter. The working twin has two girl friends, while the other has none. the only job the unemployed brother has is the handjob he gives himself every night. Justice would be better served if the law forced the lucky brother to share his goodies.

    Agreed.

  6. Starbucks has an over-estimation of its place role in society.

Starbucks is a coffee shop not a poor one at that. Starbucks is not a Sally Ann, mission to the lepers or a pretentious Rockefeller Philanthropic Trust or Eugenicist Foundation. Most of the people I know haven’t been to a Starbucks in years, wouldn’t make arrangements to meet anyone there either. Support your local coffee shop merchants you will be supporting your local economy jobs for your neighbors, where you are a human being with a name not a “customer” with a latte or a cappuccino. Corporations like Starbucks “think” it’s clever to engage in an appearance of charity to grease the wheels of Corporate Profit control. This latest move by Starbucks to solicit 5.00 donations to create jobs is beyond contempt. If you want to support the dignity of labor a fair wage for your neighbors community, shop buy locally. Besides, caffeine is one of the most addictive drugs in North America, so why support the caffeine version of the Medellín Cartel?

Correction – Starbucks is a coffee shop a poor one at that.

  7. Screw Starbucks. Get your coffee from the sweet okole coffee company in Hawaii. Their dark roast kona is the best. And it’s from a small American coffee farm (or whatever you call them — plantation?)

  8. Do Starbucks really think that people will feel its their patriotic duty to buy their coffee to save American jobs?

Just spend the five dollar donation to buy anything made in America. That will go straight to a job.

Starbucks is another great example of selfish America i.e. use the pretense of helping as a marketing tool and the American public are so thick they will believe it. The when the public find they have been screwed they will blame an invisible off shore cartel for highjacking America or they will blame the Muslims etc.. You have to laugh at America

  9. Anyone that would even bother going to starbucks to buy a cup of slop needs their head examined. I have never encroached on this roach sucking “business” nor would I ever even if someone paid me to.

    Morons

  10. Hey, here’s an idea….Why doesn’t Starbuck’s CEO and board members take ten percent of their pay/bonus money and put it to use “making new jobs”? My bet is that they wouldn’t even miss it.
ALEA is correct. I can believe idiots putting in 5 bucks to snap up a plastic wristband as the new fashion statement du jour.

  11. This is a growing trend. Many big supermarket and drug stores routinely ask for a donation for ‘charities’ like the American Cancer Society etc. Cancer is more of an enviromental problem anyway and the whole search for a ‘cure’ idea is mostly bunk, but that doesn’t stop all the fools from jogging to end cancer, or charging their credit card to join the fight, or having Big NFL linemen wearing pink sweat bands to fight breast cancer. Did I just wake up in Oz or is this really happening. A world ‘stuck on stupid’, and you can’t fix stupid.

  12. What a crock!

What sort of “jobs” will these be?

    Sh*t jobs?

    Or, jobs for minorities only?

  13. Instead of the wristbands reading “Indivisible” the wristband shoud read “Invisible.” Because it’s a covert “con job.” Starbucks has already invaded the grocery stores, malls, neighborhoods etc. Why not just be open about it and open Starbucks in Bank of America, Chase Bank, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Deutsche Bank (German Chocolate in their mochas) and Morgan Stanley?

Oh I almost forgot! They should also open them in all Federal Reserve Banks. And when Berhackie gives his speeches, make sure he has a Starbucks Cup on the podium (it can be filled with BS, nobody is the wiser)

  14. Plenty of suckers will fall for this Starbucks(Zio supporter) stunt. No thanks!
