In an email to the Telegraph she wrote: “I applied to Columbia like any
ambitious student and I got accepted based on my resume that I worked hard
for.

“As for Barbara Walters, I have no idea what these allegations are. I
didn’t even apply to Journalism at Columbia. How can she help me with
something that I didn’t even apply for? On the other hand, I didn’t get the
internship at CNN either.”

Previous emails have indicated that Miss Jaafari was working on behalf of Mr
Assad and had written an email declaring: “This man is loved by his
people.”

In the email, Miss Jaafari claimed the ongoing bloodshed in her country “breaks
my heart”. She also claimed that she was never a presidential aide to
Mr Assad and said she is a “victim” of an “orchestrated
campaign”.

“Late 2011, after graduating from New York and while preparing myself for
a master degree, I volunteered as an intern in the Syrian media and
communication circles for approximately 3 months,” she wrote.

“My duties were limited to fulfil instructions related to communicating
with some English speaking media reporters under the supervision of the
media advisers.

“Unfounded reports published recently have wrongfully claimed that I was
the aide of the President of Syria. I want to make clear that I have never
served as a President aid [sic] to the President of Syria.

“I am deeply concerned with the misleading media attention. There seems to be
a campaign orchestrated by some intentional parties to manipulate the facts.

“I am nothing but a victim for some personal agendas. As any ambitious young
graduate student in America all I was trying to do in this very brief time
was to build up my knowledge and to explore ways to a successful academic
options.

“What’s going on in Syria and to my people saddens me and breaks my heart. It
is in my prayers that peace and stability will prevail.”
