Target confirms 260 job losses

TARGET has announced 260 jobs will go in a restructure of its business operations.

The jobs will go from the company’s store support centre in Geelong and in regional support locations, Target said in a statement.

After a review of Target store support functions, there will be a new organisational structure to help restore business performance, the statement said.

Target managing director Stuart Machin said the restructure was necessary in order to get the business on a sustainable path to growth.

“This is an extremely difficult time for our team, and unfortunately we’ll be losing many great team members,” Mr Machin said in the statement.

“With our sales and profit under-performance over the past 12 months, we have needed to act in order to get our costs under control and the right store support structure in place.”

Mr Machin said staff leaving the business would receive their full entitlements as well as support, including career transition support.

He said Target would also explore redeployment opportunities wherever available.
