Teenage girl dies in crash in northern Vic

A 16-year-old girl has died after a car carrying three teenagers lost control and hit a pole in northern Victoria.

Police said the single-vehicle crash happened when the car left the Shepparton-Barmah Road at Bunbartha, north of Shepparton, and struck a power pole just before midnight.

A 16-year-old Mansfield girl, who was sitting in the back passenger seat, was thrown from the car on impact and died at the scene.

A 17-year-old boy from Nathalia is thought to have been driving at the time, police say.

A third passenger, a 17-year-old boy, also from Nathalia, was in the front passenger seat.

Both boys were taken to Shepparton Hospital for observation.

Major collision investigators will interview the driver as they determine how the crash happened.

The crash takes Victoria’s road toll to 128, compared with 143 at this time last year.
