Texan Sentenced for Trying to Help Al Qaida

Texan Barry Walter Bujol Jr., was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 20 years in prison for trying to help al Qaida, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Bujol was arrested in 2010 while trying to leave the country for the Middle East using counterfeit identification because, he said, he disagrees with U.S. foreign policy.

He was convicted of trying to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization and identity theft, and prosecutors say he wanted to join al Qaida, according to the Journal.
