A shocking video (see above) from Tuscaloosa, Alabama has been making the rounds on social media the past 24 hours. According to AL.com:
Police were reportedly called to 12th Avenue Place Apartments on Frank Thomas Avenue about 3 a.m. on a noise complaint. What happened next is unclear, but multiple videos taken from both inside and outside of the apartment are making their way across social media.
The video shows an officer talking to those inside the apartment at the front door, and those inside refused to exit the apartment. The students questioned whether they were being arrested or detained, and whether the officers were within their rights to search the apartment.
Officers ended up going into the apartment. In one of the videos, one of the officers tells those inside the apartment to “Shut the (expletive) up.” When told the incident was being videotaped, he replied, “I don’t give a (expletive).”
At least a dozen officers quickly responded to the scene. A witness told AL.com the scene was chaotic. “They had a girl and two boys on the ground,” she said. “They were all screaming and everybody was videoing it. ”
One of the young men was taken outside the apartment and then hit with a Taser stun gun, and struck repeatedly with an officer’s nightstick. Two young men and a young woman – all three students – were taken into custody.
In what started as a simple noise complaint turned into a violent thrashing of two college students (and possibly a third). Not only were they hit with batons but in the video above you can see one of the men being tased, as both his arms are held by other officers, and as he’s being slammed against the wall. The Tuscaloosa police department is aware of the video and claims of excessive force. Chief Steve Anderson stated “I have forwarded the video to our Internal Affairs investigators. They will begin an investigation tomorrow.”

While the cops wait for cops to investigate cops, we’re going to push this video into the public sphere even more. The police shouldn’t be escalating ‘loud noise’ calls to the point where a dozen officers, a taser and other police weapons are used. One commentor on the AL.com article nailed it when they said police should have just said, “It is time to wind it down, you are disturbing your neighbors. I do not want to come back out here. Have a good night. And left.”
Instead the first officer demanded compliance and respect – but showed none – and all other officers just hurled through the door ready to jack anyone up. The attidudes of these police are summed up when, near the end of the video, one officer responds to the woman who said she recorded it all that, “I [he] don’t give a sh*t.”
Let’s make them give a shit. Call their department, comment on their facebook page and spread this video far and wide! And kudos to the college students who filmed this from multiple angles!
