UK MoD to sell Knightsbridge Barracks

The MoD is mulling over plans to sell the property, which contains a 200,000-square-foot tower, if ministerial approval is obtained, reported Bloomberg.

The potential sale of the property can bring the MoD between 300 million and 500 million pounds.

Earlier this week, British Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told British MPs that after making “tough decisions” he could “balance the books” and plug the “yawning black hole” in the MoD budget.

The “tough decisions” included cuts to MoD projects such as replacement for the early warning Nimrod surveillance aircraft, armoured fighting vehicles, and remotely operated drones.

Military experts in Britain raised concerns over the extensive cuts to MoD projects, which were required in order to plug a £38bn black hole in the UK’s defence budget.

“It could be that some of the methods that we’d rather hoped or aspired to do in the future are no longer obtainable,” said Britain’s most senior military commander, General Sir David Richards.
