Pakistan Air Force drone crashes

Provincial sources told Press TV on Saturday that the unmanned aerial vehicle was on a routine patrol sortie and took off from Mianwali Airbase, located some 200 kilometers (124 miles) southwest of the national capital Islamabad.

It went down in open fields near the city of Chakwal, located 90 kilometers southeast of Islamabad, after it developed a technical problem.

The incident comes two days after two Pakistan Air Force planes crashed in a residential area in northwestern Pakistan, killing all four pilots on board and injuring five people on the ground.

Police official Fazil Khan said residents of Nowshera city, where the planes went down, reported that the aircraft collided before they crashed, but the air force is still investigating.

The Pakistan Air Force has a fleet of Chinese aircraft, including F-7PGs and A-5s, plus US-built F-16s and French Mirages. It recently acquired JF-17 jets, also known as Thunder jets, which are manufactured jointly by China and Pakistan.
