Updated February 2 / Originally filed February 1, 2012  Albuquerque, New Mexico – Since posting the previous January 31, 2012 Earthfiles report about mysterious trumpet sounds heard by residents near Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee, I have received the following email reports from Germany and Australia. Another sound was described by a Lake Perry, Kansas, resident who compared what she and her husband heard to a “television upstairs left on. … I stayed outside for a long time listening and it was very haunting and wherever I went around the house, it had the same level of volume and direction was absent.”

A German viewer responded to the February 1, Earthfiles with his own research into the length of sound and fade out cyles in the Kiev “chorus of trumpets” video with the following February 2, 2012, emails:

Three tones + a technical noise, cycle = 9 sec, tone = E, (c), a

Germany, Mönchengladbach, 2012-01-22
Two tones + a technical noise, cycle = 10 sec, tone = A#, f#

Here are some more:

Single tone, longer cycle, tone = G

Noise, cycle = 11 sec, tone = g#’

Interesting:   If you slow down the recording to shift pitch from g# to f# this would possibly shorten the recording so that the interval also matches 10 seconds.
At least one of the tones allmost is in the range of f#-g-g#-(a).

Question of faked strange sound videos – There are also some fakes on youtube, which have identical audio tracks, but with different video. So not all footages are real.

Examples of faked youtube videos:

same noise as here:

Subject:   More trumpets with almost same pitch

“Hello Linda,

As I wrote, in all recordings of the strange trumpet noises that I have listed today, the higher sound is of almost the same pitch (G#).(!)

This is very strange for a worldwide phenomenom. Also the cycle is about 10 seconds in most cases. In some recordings the cycle changes.

A thought about pitch differences
———————————-

The small differences in pitch may result from frame rate conversions between the various video sources and the final youtube video. So possibly the trumpet sounds had exactly the same pitch.

Hum of Power Lines

A proper analyses will use a method that was recently published by the British police.
The hum of power lines is present in almost any video recordings. The frequency of this hum is different in some countries. When you know the frequency of the hum, you can measure if the video is running with correct pitch. In addition there are small variations in the frequency of the hum (between 49,95 and 50,05 in Europe) that are characteristic for the day and hour of recording. The police uses this footprint of the hum to recognize if a recording was made at the claimed time.

Source “Power lines act as police informers”:

Of course it is to be taken into account that one can easily fake such trumpet recordings. With an audio editor and a good reverb plugin, I can produce similar sounds. (Just produce two sawtooth waves with appropriate pitches and add heavy reverberation. When this is mixed with a real audio recording it will be not easy to find out that the trumpets are faked.)

Earth tone by Hans Cousto
——————————
The reciprocal of the period of the Earth’s rotation can be doubled, for example 24 times, to be well perceived by the ear:

1,1574 ·10−5 Hz · 224 = 1,1574 ·10−5 Hz · 16777216 = 194,179497984 Hz ≈ 194,18 Hz

The higher trumpet tones in the recordings below were in the frequency range of 185…220 Hz respectively in octaves above that.

Is this a random coincidence?”

“Linda,

My husband and I have a house by a lake here in Kansas called Lake Perry. I actually emailed you previously regarding a strange event on October 1st, 2011 regarding a loud, thunderous boom on a completely clear night. I only mention that because honestly, we have had a number of odd events we could report and I don’t want to be labeled as someone who just wants attention.

On Labor Day weekend, this past September 3, 2011, at about 3am, my husband and I both woke to a sound we thought was the television upstairs left on. I went upstairs only to find that the sound wasn’t coming from there at all. Mind you, it was very hot and we had AC on, house closed up and a fan running right by our bed, so white noise was at a high level from all of those sounds, and house closed, so outside noise would have to be fairly loud to wake someone, you would suppose. Also, oddly, I could hear the sound when I went upstairs, but couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from. It was a weird, everywhere kind of sound.

I let my dogs outside into our backyard, and once outside, the strange sound was quite loud and again, I couldn’t pinpoint a source or direction. It had a strange old television show kind of echo, but you couldn’t make out any words. It reminded me greatly of a video I later found on Youtube from Norway. Strange and echo-like.

It was a holiday weekend, and at the time, I kept trying to rationalize the whole thing, assuming it was coming from somewhere because of all of the extra people at Lake Perry. I stayed outside for a long time listening and it was very haunting. Again, where ever I went around the house, it had the same level of volume and any specific direction was absent. It wasn’t until morning that I realized it woke my husband, too. The odd thing about that is he is legally deaf, was sleeping on his good ear and heard it anyway, thinking like me it was the television. He told me that he had gotten up before I woke up and went up to turn off TV also, only to find it wasn’t on.

I didn’t discover this sound phenomenon until my nephew who lives in LA reported hearing the ‘trumpet sounds’  back in December when they had all the weird storms out there in California. His saying that then made me revisit our September 2011 Labor Day experience, particularly after I heard the Norway video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bS1iCOVvO8

Thanks for your ongoing work Linda.

Ozawkie, Kansas”

The email below with a URL to another horn sound recorded on video January 22, 2012, in MonchenGladbach, Germany, west of Dusseldorf, is another example of a volume-cycling sound and is valuable to watch its entire 5 minutes and 21 seconds length.

Monchengladbach, Germany, west of Dusseldorf, Germany.

“This video is taken in MönchenGladbach west of Dusseldorf, Germany. It was Sunday evening, 22 January 2012! Maybe some from our surrounding area heard that, too, and can say something about it. Thank you !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSPiSRHvI3Afeature=youtu.be

English translation of voice heard on MonchenGladbach video that includes horn sound similar to Strange Sound in Kiev above:

“First we thought about our water pipes from the bathroom (got some trouble with it before), till we recognized, that this sound is coming from outside. It was really loud and strongly, maybe you can`t hear it so good by watching this video.”

Beside the horns, there is also a konstant higher sound that reminds to some kind of technical machine.

Many thanks for your work.

“My name is J. S. and I live in a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, called Blackburn. It’s about 14 kilometers from Melbourne’s central business district. My partner Jayne and I woke up at 3am or just after – i remember 3.08am for some reason, on Monday morning January 30, 2012. I heard the exact same noise as the Kiev video, but it was louder. The sound was so loud it sounded like it was right outside on the street, but I don’t think the sound got louder and softer. It was certainly much louder than the Kiev video. And I heard the horn sound three times after waking up from being fast asleep.

I could not sleep after that and when having a coffee with a work friend, he mentioned he and his partner woke up at the same time – he lives about 30 kms from me.

I just played the Kiev sound for Jayne who had not heard it before and she is totally freaked out because it’s like what we heard.”

Melbourne is marked by the red circle in southeastern Australia.
