US fails to create enough jobs in March

According to a Labor Department report on April 6, 120,000 jobs were added across the country in March 2012, which indicates a significant decrease in hiring compared to February, when 240,000 jobs were created.

Christine Owens, executive director of the National Employment Law Project, said on Friday it is “discouraging” that job growth in March was half of what it had been the previous month.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in the United States fell to 8.2 percent in March from 8.3 the previous month. Yet the retail sector still recorded losses, with 33,800 jobs terminated in the same period.

The latest Labor Department report comes as figures show currently about 12.7 million Americans remain unemployed.

Many commentators believe that the prospects for US President Barack Obama to be reelected in the November 6 presidential poll are seriously linked to the economy and the jobs market.
