Provincial police chief of Kandahar Rahmatullah Atrafi said on Thursday that US troops shot and killed a man in Dand city on Wednesday.
The man came under fire when he was walking with his daughter on a road in the area, Atrafi said, adding that the child escaped unharmed.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) is yet to comment on the incident.
Anger with US-led foreign forces is climbing across Afghanistan over their attacks on civilians.
One deadly attack took place in March, when American soldiers killed some 17 Afghan civilians, including women and children.
Afghan people have held mass rallies across the country to condemn such killings and demand the total pull-out of foreign troops from Afghanistan.
