Wild weather forecast for much of NSW

A severe weather warning has been issued for much of NSW, with people being told to prepare for damaging winds of up to 90km/h.

The wild weather is expected to hit parts of the South Coast, the Illawarra, the Snowy Mountains and the Southern and Central Tablelands on Sunday morning, The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said on Saturday.

People in areas including Goulburn, Bowral, Nowra, Wollongong, Katoomba and Lithgow have been told to prepare for wind gusts averaging 65km/h and reaching in excess of 90km/h.

However, the winds are expected to ease by the afternoon or evening, the BoM said.

Meanwhile, sheep graziers in the Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes and Southern and Central Tablelands are being warned that cold temperatures, rain and strengthening west to south-westerly winds are expected during Saturday and Sunday.

“There is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions,” the BoM said.

Along the coast from Cape Byron in the state’s north to Gabo Island in the south, a wind warning has also been issued with south-westerly winds reaching up to 74km/h and swells of three metres predicted for Sunday.
