21 Iranian convicts extradited by Afghanistan

TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (MNA) – FM deputy for consular affairs has said 21 Iranian convicts have been extradited by Afghanistan according to extradition agreement in effect since 2009.

Hassan Ghashghavi told reporters on Monday that the prisoner swap and extradition agreement with Afghanistan was approved by the Parliament in March 2010.

The extradition was agreed in the 3rd joint consular commission held on Monday. “In framework of swap program, 2 Iranians convicts in Afghan prisons will be transferred to Iran in upcoming days; Afghan nationals in Iranian prisons will also be extradited,” Mr. Ghashghavi said.

“In total, the first stage of agreement will facilitate extradition of 251 convicts from 4 Iranian prisons to Afghanistan by mid-September,” he concluded.
