Americans disapprove of Congress: Poll

The survey conducted by Gallup shows that the US Congress has the support of just 10 percent of the participants.

“This particular Congress has been contentious and not associated with any specific legislative achievements other than dragging out negotiations over budgetary matters. So the complex of normal pattern, as well as special problems has helped to lower its popularity,” Howard University Professor Lorenzo Morris says.

At least 86 percent disapproved of the Congress, saying Congressional leaders are not handling their job properly.

The Gallup links the drop in Congressional support to the constant bickering taking place between the country’s political parties.

When Republicans gained control of the House, while narrowing the Democratic majority in the Senate in 2010, Congress approval stood at 21 percent.

The US Congress has eight months to change the public’s view.
