Arizona police officer shot dead

A shooting incident left a police officer dead on a Native American Indian reservation in Arizona after he ordered a car to pull over, police said Sunday.

Jair Cabrera, a Salt River Police Department officer, was shot dead Saturday after a suspect in the car shot him and the bullet pierced the windshield of his police car.

Cabrera, 37, the first officer to die on the reservation in the line of duty, was making a traffic stop near the Chevron gas station on Pima and Chaparral Road in Scottsdale.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but later pronounced dead, according to the Salt River Police Department.

The incident is still under investigation but police took the three occupants of the car into custody. At least one of them is facing criminal charges, the FBI said.

Also on May 12, a police officer was shot and seriously wounded in southern New Hampshire before a fire and explosion raged through a home.

According to Brentwood Selectman Jane Byrne, the officer was shot by a suspect and then taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
