Biden rejects Israeli concessions for Palestinians

Joe BidenAmerican Vice President Joe Biden has criticised his country for putting pressure on Israel. He opposes Israeli concessions to the Palestinians, 1985 recordings have revealed.

The recordings purportedly belonged to the Vice President himself and were found in the archive of late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir.

According to the Israeli army radio Galei Tzahal, which reported the recordings on Friday, Biden said that Israel must not offer any “concessions.”

It was also reported that he criticised the American administration, then headed then by Ronald Reagan, for putting pressure on Israel to reach an agreement with the Palestinians.

Biden said that an agreement with the Palestinians would not have brought calm to the Middle East, and nothing would happen in the region should peace not be achieved. Therefore, he said, Israel were not obliged to “concede” anything.

The opinion of the Vice President completely opposes that of President Barack Obama, who is trying to put pressure on Israel in order to advance the political process and facilitate Israel towards peace with the Palestinians.
