Bomb blast kills 14 in NW Pakistan

The explosion occurred on Sunday in the Lower Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

“It was a remote-controlled bomb blast which killed 14 people including three women and wounded 10 others,” AFP quoted local police official Farman Khan as saying on Sunday.

The van was carrying pro-government people, he added.

No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack although similar incidents are usually blamed on pro-Taliban militants.

Despite the Pakistani government’s operations against militants and terrorists, they are still able to spread their influence in various regions of the country and have killed thousands of people.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in the so-called war on terror.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan and thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
