Bomber targets Afghan Speaker’s family

The attack took place on Wednesday in the Imam Sahib district of Kunduz after a bomber detonated his explosive vest in a crowd watching the traditional Afghan sport known as buzkashi.

Reports say that several other people were injured in the attack. The provincial police chief Sayed Sarwar Hussaini also confirmed the attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials put the blame on Taliban militants who have carried out similar assaults in the past.

The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of combating terrorism. The invasion removed the Taliban from power, but Afghanistan remains insecure despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led forces there.

The US-led war, which has inflicted record-high civilian and military casualties, has become the longest military conflict in the American history.
