Israeli army removes EU-funded Palestinian homes

Days of Palestine, West Bank -Israeli occupation forces removed on Monday a number of Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem, leaving more than 90 Palestinians homeless.

The Palestinian homes, which the EU paid for building them, were exactly located in Jabal Al-Baba Neighbourhood of the village of Al-Eizariya in the outskirts of East Jerusalem.

According to the Na’eem Mazaraa, owner of one of the removed homes, most of the 90 displaced relatives are children and women.

“We were surprised with the Israeli occupation forces starting the removal of our homes,” he said, stressing that none of the owners had any prior notice.

Most of the removed homes belonged to one tribal family, which Mazaraa one of its members.

Tawfiq al-Jahalin, the owner of the only home which did not belong to Mazaraa family, said that the Israeli occupation forces raided the area on Sunday and took photos and measurements of the homes.

“In the early morning of the next day,” he said, “we were surprised that the Israeli occupation forces came and obliged us to leave our homes before they were demolished.”

The Israeli Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) said: “Enforcement steps were carried out against seven mobile homes and parts of structures that were illegally built in the last few days without permits.”
