GOLD Coast City Council and police admit there’s little they can do to prevent a neo-Nazi music festival being held in the city in May.
The Hammered Music Festival, organised by an Australian white supremacist group called the Southern Cross Hammerskins, will be held at a secret, private location in Carrara on May 4.
The festival has been held several times in the city since 2010.
A Gold Coast City Council spokesman said the only way the council could ban the event would be if it was held on public property.
But he said there’d been no application to use a public space.
Police said that unless laws were broken the festival was “not a police issue”.
“The Queensland Police Service has a role and responsibility to ensure public safety and to uphold and enforce the law,” the statement said.
“There are a number of laws, both state and local, that bind people planning public gatherings to ensure public safety and amenity.
“These laws are governed predominantly by local councils.”
