Pennsylvania Police Chief Charged With DUI and Careless Driving

Pennsylvania – Camp Hill Police Chief Douglas Hockenberry was charged Monday with DUI and other traffic offenses following a crash earlier this month that investigators said involved alcohol.

Hockenberry, 46, was put on leave following the single-vehicle crash, which took place at about 10 p.m. Nov. 5 in Rye Township. The police chief lives in Marysville.

The case is awaiting preliminary hearing after charges were filed by the Perry County District Attorney’s Office. In addition to DUI, the charges include careless driving, disregarding a traffic lane and failure to notify police of the crash.

Hockenberry’s charges indicate he allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration greater than .16. The legal limit is .08.

According to state police, Hockenberry’s 2007 Chevrolet Silverado struck a tree and a mailbox, disabling the vehicle.

Hockenberry served as a Camp Hill police officer since 1996. He was hired as chief in 2013.
