UK MPs warn against Syria intervention

In a statement to the House of Commons on March 6, Hague revealed plans to provide insurgents in Syria with armoured vehicles, body armour, and other military equipment.

Many British MPs, however, raised concerns over Britain’s plans, saying that they fear being drawn into yet another military intervention, this time in Syria.

Referring to the 10th anniversary of what he called the “mistaken military action” in Iraq, Liberal Democrat MP Sir Menzies Campbell said many people fear a “drift” towards military intervention in Syria.

Britain and its regional and western allies have been repeatedly accused of arming and training Syrian terrorists and even exporting mercenaries to the Arab country in an attempt to topple Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s government.

The Syrian unrest began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed ever since.
