UK PM appoints Dan Rosenfield as new chief of staff

Dan Rosenfield, former finance ministry official and current chair of World Jewish Relief (WJR), has just been appointed UK PM Boris Johnson’s new chief of staff. “The Prime Minister has today appointed Dan Rosenfield as his chief of staff,” said a statement from Johnson’s office on Thursday. According to Reuters, “He will begin work in Downing Street on Dec. 7 and officially take up the Chief of Staff role on Jan. 1.”WJR is an international humanitarian agency for the British Jewish community, providing services in Europe and beyond.Rosenfield started as trustee in WJR in 2013, becoming chair in 2016, according to the Jewish Leadership Council’s (JLC) website. JLC is an umbrella body comprised of the heads of 34 Jewish organizations, responsible for coordinating between them, according to the interests of each group. He is joining Johnson’s administration from Hakluyt, a business and investment consulting firm. Before Hakluyt, he was a managing director of investment banking at Bank of America. Rosenfield has also previously served for over a decade in the UK Treasury. This includes four years as “principal private secretary to Chancellors Alistair Darling and George Osborne,” according to Hakluyt’s website. The Jewish Telegraph ran a profile of Rosenfield in 2016. He confirmed to them, at the time, that he indeed had Chancellor Darling over for Shabbat dinner. “I fell in love with the people and the work that it does,” he said of WJR, nothing his deep Jewish roots and values.

Dominic Cummings left Johnson’s senior advisory team earlier this month. Since then, Johnson has been revising the team.Reuters noted that Cummings was “seen as the driving force behind Johnson’s strategy on Brexit and most other policies, and his exit has been billed as a chance for a ‘reset’ for the British leader.”Reuters contributed to this report.
