US: Indicted social media journalist fired

San Fransisco Chronicle – A social media journalist indicted in March for allegedly helping hackers break into the Los Angeles Times’ website was fired Monday by his employer, the news service Thomson Reuters. In a tweet Monday, Matthew Keys, 26, of Secaucus, N.J., wrote, “Just got off the phone. Reuters has fired me, effective today. Our union will be filing a grievance.” Keys is accused in a federal indictment of providing members of the hacker movement Anonymous with the credentials for a computer server belonging to Tribune Co., which owns both a TV station that had fired Keys, KTXL Channel 40 in Sacramento, and the Times, whose website was hacked in December 2010.
