US self-defence expert banned from UK

Tim Larkin, 47-year-old martial arts instructor and former military intelligence officer, had been invited to be the keynote speaker at the Martial Arts Show conference in Birmingham on May 12 and 13. He was also planning to teach martial arts in London’s Tottenham neighborhood.

However, as he was boarding an airplane in Las Vegas, Larkin received a letter from the UK Border Agency, an executive agency of the Home Office, which said he would not be allowed to enter Britain.

“We can confirm that the individual in question is subject to an exclusion order. The Home Secretary will seek to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good,” said a Home Office spokesperson.

Larkin said he would contact British MPs to recall the exclusion order as he described it as a “gross reaction”.

“It says there’s no right of appeal. I have a lot of support over in the UK. I have people I can go to. There are Members of Parliament I’m sure I can go to, and maybe this can be reconsidered”, said Larkin.
