A boat carrying 144 suspected asylum seekers has been intercepted northeast of Christmas Island after it sought assistance.
Two navy ships, the HMAS Glenelg and ACV Triton, went to the aid of the vessel on Saturday at the request of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
The passengers will be transferred to Christmas Island to undergo security, health and identity checks.
