139 shooting incidents on fishermen during 2015: Right watchdog

Gaza, ALRAY-Palestinian Center for Human Rights documented 139 shooting incident against fishermen in Gaza. 24 fishermen were injured and 71 fishermen were arrested over the past year.

The center said that the Israeli occupation destroyed 16 fishing boats, as six shells were fired directly on fishing boats. In addition to the confiscation of 22 fishing boats, and 5 pieces of net.

Israeli occupation arrested 29 fishermen, including a child, while detained eight fishing boats, and that in the exercise of fishing off Gaza’s water, according to the report .

The center pointed out that the occupation forces are fighting fishermen on their livelihoods in the Gaza Strip through shooting at them , destroying their fishing equipment , and the arrest them.

The Centre said that the Israeli attacks on Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip represents a flagrant violation of the rules of the international human rights law regarding the protection of the lives of the civilian population and respecting their rights.
