A man sought in the slayings of 9-year-old Alabama twin girls and their 73-year-old baby sitter has been arrested, authorities said.
Deandra Marquis Lee, 22, was captured Saturday at an apartment in Selma, Ala., the Alabama Bureau of Investigation announced.
Selma Police Chief William Riley said Lee was rousted out of bed in his underwear and offered no resistance, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.
“He recognized it was over,” Riley said, according to the newspaper.
Lee is accused in the shooting deaths of twins Jordan and Taylor Dejerinett and their caretaker, Jack Mac Girdner, 73. The victims’ bodies were found along a dirt road in Lowndes County late Tuesday afternoon, a few miles from Girdner’s home in Hope Hull, one day after they were reported missing, al.com reported.
Girdner’s car was found Wednesday in the Minter community of Dallas County. All four doors had been removed from the vehicle, according to al.com.
Authorities say Girdner was a retired anesthesiologist who sometimes cared for the children.
Police have not given a motive for the shootings.
Lee was acquitted last year of murder in the shootings of two men in Selma several years ago, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.
