The Premier has launched an attack on the union movement, accusing it of running the WA Labor Party and its election campaign.

Colin Barnett has largely dismissed several union campaign launches this morning, targeting budget cuts and a lack of training in the mining industry.

He has also pointed to the Labor pre-selection of several union officials, saying it shows they are running the party.

Mr Barnett has criticised the union campaigns, arguing they are purely political.

“I think it makes Mark McGowan look very weak as a leader that he is unable to actually run an election campaign, he has to leave it to the unions,” he alleged.

Mr McGowan has hit back, describing the Premier’s comments as inappropriate.

“Once again, Mr Barnett has launched a personal attack when there’s no need,” he said.

“The fact Mr Barnett’s engaging in personal attacks once again is a matter for him, all I’ll do is take up issues on behalf of the people of the state that matter.”

Mr McGowan says the unions have every right to publicly raise their concerns about government policies.
