Body found in tree in eastern Sydney

A decomposing body has been found up a tree in Sydney’s eastern suburbs but police are saying the death is not suspicious.

The body was discovered up a tree on Prince Lane at Randwick around 11.50am (AEDT) on Thursday after a council worker was called to investigate residents’ complaints of a bad smell.

The tree contractor was pruning the large ivy-covered tree when he made the grim discovery, a Randwick Council spokesman told AAP.

“There had been complaints of a foul smell and we sent a tree contractor out to prune back the tree and investigate the source,” the spokesman said.

The council immediately notified police, he added.

It is unclear how long the body may have been there but a police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

No details about the sex or age of the dead person were immediately available.
